FUTA Convocates 4,241 Students, As 85 Bag First Class

The Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, is set to graduate 4241 students from various Departments who have met basic requirements for their enrolled courses.

 

A statement from the University’s Public Relations Unit noted that the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Suleiman Adamu, who is the Chancellor of the University will preside over the Grand Finale on Saturday, March 18 during which Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the nation’s former Minister of Agriculture and current President, African Development Bank (AfDB), and Professor Rainer Horn, a German will be conferred with Honorary Degrees in Agriculture and Management respectively. 
According to the statement, the University’s Ceremonies Committee Chairman, Professor Olaniyi Okunlola disclosed that the 28th convocation ceremony has a total of 4,241 graduands with the University’s Degrees.
Prof. Okunlola noted that 68 students would be conferred with certificates in  Diploma Programmes from the Centre for Continuing  Education, 2,889 Undergraduates and 1,284 from the School of Postgraduate Studies.
Meanwhile, Mr Ali Abdul-Hafeez Semomhe from the Department of Electrical Electronic Engineering emerged the overall  best graduating  student for the 2015/2016 academic session  with  a C.G.P.A of 4.89 from a pool of 85 students who bagged first class. 
In the course of the ceremony, 10 new additions to the University’s critical infrastructure would be commissioned. Some of them are the new postgraduate halls of residence for both male and female, new halls of residence for both male and female undergraduates, a shopping complex, block of classrooms, new lecture halls and the University Library Extension.
