Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki has launched the State Integrated Financial Management Information System (SIFMIS) to enhance and actualize his administration’s vision of a repositioned, electronically driven Civil Service in the state.

Governor Obaseki, who flagged off the system at the Edo State Government House in Benin City, explained that SIFMIS is the government’s attempt to make the civil service more transparent and effective by automating and updating its processes.
He said, “SIFMIS is our first attempt to get government to work again more transparently and effectively. There is nothing new but only automating what should have been and updating the processes in the Civil Service”.
The governor also disclosed that his administration has completed the process of acquiring 1,000 units of computers, and the first 300 are ready for deployment to make connectivity possible.
According to the governor, there would also be the provision of fast, wireless internet connection as well as the completion of the construction of the Block ‘C’ section of the government’s secretariat to ease work in the civil service.
The Accountant General of Edo State, Mr. Isaac Ehiozuwa, who was present at the flag off, commended Governor Obaseki for his commitment and determination to run and ensure transparent and effective governance through the system.
He said all is set to run the system in the state as all those concerned have been fully trained, and all financial transactions of the state would be done through the use of the computers.
Mr Obaseki thereby called on the people of the state to embrace technology as the government would make the process simple, while also crediting the former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, who he claimed paved way for the development through his courage and vision.
