state government says it has distributed 172 transformers of various
capacities to different communities across the 23 local government areas
of the state.

Similarly, the government said it plans to
install a further 100 transformers to complement existing ones and
enhance access to electricity supply in remote locations before the end
of 2017.

The state commissioner for Rural Development, Abdullahi Maigwandu, stated this while briefing reporters in Sokoto.

He
said the 172 transformers were supplied at the cost of N623 million,
while a further N103 million was spent on supply and installation of
electrical equipment in different parts of the state.

“The
categories distributed include 500 kva, 300 kva and 200 kva. Some local
government areas got five while others got three depending on request.

“Our
plan is to enhance access to electricity in many areas that hitherto
had no power supply at all. The benefits of such endeavour cannot be
overemphasised,” he added.

The commissioner said his
ministry is also liaising with the Federal Government to ensure more
communities are connected to electricity supply.
