Just In: Former Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Babatunde Osotimehin Dies At 68

The Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Professor Babatunde Osotimehin, has died at the age of 68.

 


According to a statement from his family, which was obtained by Daily Trust on Monday, Nigeria’s former health minister and former Director General of National Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, (NACA), died on Sunday.
The statement signed by Dr Babajide Osotimehin on behalf of his family reads: “With gratitude to the Almighty God for a life well-spent in service to Humanity, the Babatunde Osotimehin Family of Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State of Nigeria, hereby announces the transition of our Father and Grandfather, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin (OON), the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Sunday, 4th June, 2017 at the age of 68 years.
“Funeral Arrangements will be announced by the family.”
Born on February 6, 1949, the 68-year-old was also a former Provost of the College of Medicine at the University of Ibadan before he was appointed the fourth Executive Director of UNFPA in November 2010 and later reappointed in August 2014.
