FIBAN Condemns Killing Of NTA Benin Reporter | The Precision

Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) has condemned the killing of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) reporter in Benin, Edo state. 

 

A reporter with the NTA, Benin, Lawrence Okojie, was allegedly shot dead by gunmen on Saturday night 8th of July, 2017 in Benin.
Mr Okojie was reported to have been killed around Ogunola Junction, off Siluko Road.
The killing  that was confirmed  by the spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Moses Nkombe was condemned by FIBAN President, Desmond Nwachukwu in statement released by the association’s publicity secretary, Bisi Ajiboye in Akure and made available to THE PRECISION.
Mr Nwachukwu said his death brings to five the number of journalists killed in the state in the last five years.
“This is a dangerous signal to the media profession. Just imagine, the killing of Okojie brings to five the number of journalists killed in the state in the last six years. This is a very sad story. It’s  unacceptable, uncomfortable and highly condemnable,” Nwachukwu said.
While condoling the Okojie’s family and the entire management and staff of Nigerian Television Authority, Mr Nwachukwu however pray God to give them the fortitude to bear the lost.
He called on the Inspector General of Police to do the needful by bringing the perpetrators to book.
