Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has given kudos to the Nigerian Navy on its achievements which have made it a formidable part of the nation’s security network.
Receiving the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command in Akure during a courtesy visit, Governor Akeredolu expressed appreciation to officers and men of the Navy for their effective presence in the state and assured them of assistance whenever needed.
The governor used the opportunity to call for the establishment of Naval Headquarters in Ondo State, in view of the avalanche of natural bases for their operations in the state.
He specifically mentioned that Ondo State is blessed with the widest and deepest coastline which according to him, would be more beneficial to the Nigerian Navy than in any part of the country.
He explained that the naval officers could be better trained alongside their naval equipments in the state than any other place whose water is shallow .
Earlier, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Nigeria, Rear Admiral Sylvanus Agada had congratulated the Governor on his victory at the 2016 Governorship election in the state and also lauded him for carrying the people of the state along in his government.
Real Admiral Agada who is the 37th Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, stated that he was on tour to Units and Establishments under his command which includes the Forward Operation Base, Igbokoda and Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Imeri.
“I am here to pay homage and familiarize myself with you before proceeding to Igbokoda and other areas”, he said.
The Flag Officer assured that he would address all the security challenges in Igbokoda, as soon as he settled down properly.
“All threats noticeable in Igbokoda and the riverine communities will be neutralized through proactive actions by my command very soon”, he said.
He, however thanked the people of the state for supporting the activities of the Nigerian Navy which had contributed to the success it had achieved so far.
The Flag Officer expressed optimism on the movement of some units of the Nigerian Navy to Ondo State due to the fact that the state has the deepest coastline in Nigeria.
“By the time the Federal Road is developed and we have access to deep waters, we will be happy  to move some of our units to Ondo State.
“We are in Lagos but the place is choked up. By the time the Nigerian Navy grows the submarine command, definitely we will have to think of a deep area to establish,” he said.
The Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi; the Head of Service, Mr Toyin Akinkuotu; Chief of Staff to the Governor , Chief Olugbenga Ale and Secretary Cabinet Services  Mr Gbenga Elewuju joined the governor to welcome the Flag Officer to the Sunshine State.
