After a keenly contested gubernatorial primaries which lasted two days and all tgrough the night. Dr. Tony Okechukwu Nwoye, a medical doctor and current member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Anambra East/West Constituency has beaten 10 other aspirants to emerge the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to fly the party’s flag in the November 18, 2017 Anambra Governorship election.

When the curtain was drawn on the exercise on Sunday afternoon at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, Nwoye polled a total of 2,146 votes to beat his closest rival, Senator Andy Uba who polled 931 votes.
Political watchers had earlier predicted a four-horse race of the leading candidates including Tony Nwoye, Senator Andy Uba, Chief George Moghalu and Engineer Barth Nwibe but in the end it was an easy run for Nwoye.
The venue and the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, where the accreditation of delegates from the 21 local government areas of the state was held from noon yesterday, witnessed heavy presence of police and civil defence personnel deployed there to maintain law and order.
The primary election was supervised by a committee headed by Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima.
Incumbent Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, had earlier in the month of August secured the ticket of APGA to fly their flag in the elections while Chief Osita Chidoka grabbed that of the UPP and Mr. Godwin Ezeemo that of PPA.
Recall that Dr Nwoye had been reported by News Express to have conceded 10 commissioner slots and 30 percent of the state Internally Generated Revenues to his Godfather should he become the next governor of the state, an allegation he denied, saying it was from his rival camps.
