Ondo state government has hinged its decision to organize an all encompassing education summit on the need to holistically address all the challenges in the education sector. 

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was speaking at this year’s World Teachers’ Day, organised by the Ondo NUT in Akure.
Akeredolu, who was represented by the commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Femi Agagu, said government is aware of the numerous challenges confronting the sector.
The governor said this is why an education summit will be convened on October 26 and 27 2017 to profer solutions to all these problems taking into cognisance the input of all stakeholders. 
He said the programme was initiated to allow stakeholders meet minds on how to lift the Education sector.
Speaking at the event, Chairman House Committee on Education and Auxiliary, Hon Olusegun Ajimotokin said the state Assembly will enact laws that would make teachers  proud of the profession.
Hon Ajimotokin who appreciated the teaching profession urged teachers not to rest on their oar’s  but endeavor to do more  to help revamp the ailing education system in the country.
He equally charged stakeholders to wake up to their responsibility, and support government in improving fortunes of the  education system.
State NUT Chairman Oladele Amoko said some primary schools, especially in rural and coastal areas, had only one teacher in a school with over 200 pupils.
He expressed concern that the government has not recruited teachers for primary and secondary schools in 10 years.
In his keynote address, titled: Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers, the chairman of the occasion and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University at Akungba-Akoko (AAUA),Prof Olugbenga Ige said the success of empowering teachers to freely teach would depend on addressing challenges in the educational system.
