The University of Ibadan (UI) on Thursday organised a one-day free Geo-Hackathon training for selected undergraduate students of the university.

The workshop held at the department of Physiotherapy, University College Hospital, Ibadan was organised under the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research Innovation and Strategic Planning, Professor Olanike Adeyemo.

The training was aimed at helping students to know how to solve problems with spatial technology using Geographical Information System (GIS).

Professor Adeyemo encouraged students to be versatile because the world is becoming multidisciplinary.

“this training is the Vice Chancellor’s idea to enrich students so that they become relevant even outside their respective field of study.

“education is just there to put you on a scale, but entrepreneur helps you to be balance and versatile. There are always opportunities to reinvent your life,” Adeyemo said.
The director of Geographical Information System (GIS), Mr David Afolayan, stated that the training is an avenue to challenge the trainees such that they are able to develop and proffer solutions to problems.
The training was attended by over 60 students from different faculties of the university.
Also, present at the training are Professor T. K Hamzat, the Chairman of the Geo-Hackathon Committee, University of Ibadan, and other members of the Geo-Hackathon committee.
