The
Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, says Nigeria will get a national
carrier soon in order to take full advantage of the newly launched
single African air transport market.

Mr Sirika made this known while speaking on the sidelines of the African Union
Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia following the launch of the new regional
aviation initiative.
According to him, the national carrier will be private sector driven.

The minister had earlier said that the Federal Government will ensure the establishment of a national carrier takes place before the end of 2017.

He made the disclosure at a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation.
Nigeria’s
first national carrier was established in 1958 and stopped operations
in 2003 with more than 30 aircrafts on its fleet in the 1980s.
