Ondo To Vaccinate 350,000 Children In Routine Immunization Drive | The Precision

A total of 350,000 children between 0-9 months are to be vaccinated in Ondo State to commemorate 2018 African Vaccination Week with the theme “Vaccines work, be an immunization champion”.

 

Addressing Journalist in Akure, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro said the week-long activities will hold in Akoko South West local government.
According to him, “special immunization outreach services shall be conducted for 3 days, commencing Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th April, 2018 by all the 33 primary health facilities in Akoko South West LGAs,”
He said Akoko South West LGA was chosen for the immunization activities because of “its sub-optimal performance in routine immunization for the month of January and February 2018 compared to other
LGAs in the State”.
While speaking on the routine immunization being carried out in the state, Dr Adegbenro said the 583
Primary health facilities offer free routine immunization across the 18 LGAs of the state.
According to the health commissioner, “Ondo State Government, led by Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, believes in the sanctity of routine immunization in the collective drive to keep vaccine-preventable diseases at bay in Ondo State and therefore continues to support the Federal Government’s initiaves in this regard.
“Our dear Governor regularly offers logistic support to all 583 primary health facilities offering immunization services in the state through the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Board (OSPHCDB), an agency supervised by the Ministry of Health and has the mandate to coordinate all immunization services accross the state”, the commissoner added.
Dr Wahab said that the state recorded 108 percent success in the recentiy held measles vaccination campaign as 735,168 children were vaccinated.
He reiterated that the State Government shall continue to promote and support all efforts to improve the coverage of immunization services in the state, so as to keep vacccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) away from Ondo State.
