Prof. Oloyede AbdulRahman, lecturer at the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, has advised parents and husband not to deprive Muslim women of western education, engaging in businesses and professions.

AbdulRahman, who is the Chief Imam of University of Ibadan, gave the advice on Sunday during the 3rd annual Ramadan lecture organised by Association of Muslim Women in Business and professions (The Criterion), Oyo State district.
The topic of the lecture is “Muslim Women in Business, Politics and Professions: striking a balance with the home front”.
The lecturer said that an educated Muslim woman was like a soldier in Islam and disallowing her from working would be the same as depriving her of the tools to be used in promoting the course of Islam.
“Muslim women constitute an index used in measuring poverty all over the world and this is because Muslims sideline the women folk.
“Muslim women must not be ban from going to school because if they are not learned they would find it difficult to survive in the society.
“Any man that does not want his wife to work must be ready to shoulder the responsibilities of the wife, her parents and her relatives.
“Muslims have a long way to go and must not be lacking behind in western education because through this they can rise to any position and be able to showcase the beauty of Islam,’’ the lecturer said.

The Chief Imam urged Muslim women in business, politics and professions to maintain their integrity and try as much as possible not to seduce the male counterpart in their place of work and the society in general.
He also advised Muslim women in business, politics and professions not to forget their primary responsibility of taking care of the home.
In her contribution, the Ameerah of the Association, Alhaja Olatunji Falilat, said the motive of the topic of the lecture was for Muslim women in business, professions and politics to know their role and thread softly as they pursue their profession.
Falilat said the lecture would help them not to over step their boundary and act as support for their husband and the society.
In her remark, Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Tinuke Osunkoya, urged Muslims to continue to serve God, love one another and utilized the gains of the holy month of Ramadan.
Osunkoya said the Oyo State government was personate about the welfare of women, adding that various empowerment trainings have been organised  where physically challenged among them also benefitted.
