The Deputy Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ogundeji Iroju has been impeached, THE PRECISION can understand.

In an impeachment notice signed by eighteen out of the twenty-six lawmakers, they alleged  Rt. Hon. Iroju of working at variance with the Speaker, Rt Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun.

In a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Akoko North East State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Fatai Olotu, he noted that such a frosty relationship between the office of Mr Speaker and his Deputy is not in the interest of members.
According to Rt. Hon Olotu, “the office of the Speaker is an exulted one that must be respected”.
Corroborating Olotu’s position,  the lawmaker representing Akure South II state constituency, Hon Olajide Sunday who seconded the motion for impeachment maintained that the eighteen lawmakers who signed the impeachment notice are convinced that working at cross purposes by the Speaker and the Deputy would not bring the desired democracy dividend to the people.

Following the secondment of the motion,  the Speaker called for a voice vote and members were unanimous in their call for the impeachment of Rt. Hon. Ogundeji Iroju.
Hon. Abimbola Fajolu representing Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo constituency was nominated as Deputy Speaker to replace Iroju. Rt Hon Abimbola Fajolu had since been sworn in.
