Albert Einstein once said: “Everybody is a genius but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it would complete its whole life believing that its stupid.” This is what happens when it comes to schooling system. Education comes from the Latin word “EDUCE” which simply means “ to bring out something that is not visible like TALENT”

Now ask yourself, Is SCHOOL bringing out anything in you? Is SCHOOL preparing you for the future? To me school is one of the biggest scam ever, a teacher will tell you make use of your time wisely yet, they make us waste our time finding solutions to problems created by people who can’t even solve them. Jack Ma, the richest man in China once said “ I told my son: you don’t need to be in the top three in your class, being in the middle is fine, as long as your grades aren’t too bad. Only this kind of person has enough free time to learn other skills.”

Now, my question for every stakeholders in the schooling system is, Why do the system make us compete for A’s and first class? They think that bubbling standardized testing will determine success in life? Hell no! Don’t take my words for this take for J. Kelly the man who invented standardized testing said and I quote “ these tests are too crude to be used and should be abandoned.”

My dear readers, I know you will agree with me that school only makes us read 5hours a days after the long 8hours schooling per day, makes us work like robot, cram and pour out what they have taught us in  exams, that’s not education.

In Africa, precisely Nigeria where people believe that you cannot make it in life without schooling but the world has changed, take a look around your society the most successful people are drop-puts but their education still continues. Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija once said “ I don’t even have university degree” but she taught herself financial education which school don’t teach. Now, she’s the richest woman in Africa. The following are the people who didn’t finish school but that didn’t let that stop them. They made it to the top.

George Washington President of the United States
Abraham Lincoln.     President of the United States
Robert Frost.              Poet
Buckminster fuller.   Futurist and inventor

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you shouldn’t go to school, I’m also a medical student but don’t waste all your time competing for first class or second class, the world has progressed and the people that are making it in the real world are the people who can think creatively, inventively and has the ability to connect and not first class graduate.

Stay in school. Education is important but the question is: What kind of education? And Where is your education taking you to? Will your education prepare you for the future? Will your first class certificate help your financial security in a world with less and less security. This article is not about discouraging people. It’s an awareness that you should not put all your eggs in one basket and put yourself in a path where you won’t need a job or a government pension to feel secure because if you work under someone or government without any alternatives then you give them the power to starve you.
In conclusion, I will advise you to stop competing for first class, go out there and develop a skill, find what you are good at that will be productive and make you financially independent. Stop hoping that because you’re the best student in your class, department or faculty automatically you will be the most successful in life, my brother life  can be so unfair, you will end up working for the  boy you think is the dullest academically in your class if  you don’t wise up. They always say “money is the root of all evil” but I’m telling you “it’s when you’re broke that you’re prone to more evil.” Work hard and get yourself out of poverty it’s risky to die broke. A word is enough for the wise.

Thank you.
