…Commiserates With Owo People Over The Demise Of Olowo of Owo

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, Ondo State Chapter, has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari on signing the minimum wage bill of N30,000 into law before May 1 Workers Day as earlier promised.

A statement signed by the council Chairman, Lamidi Ishola in Akure noted with pleasure that the President promised to start its implementation without delay.

The council therefore urged state governments in the country to implement the new wage regime.

“We at NIPR, Ondo state, believe and urge state governments to follow the federal government’s example without delay. It is our belief that states can afford the new minimum wage if they demonstrate the require will. With a determination to eliminate waste and reduce the bloated emoluments of political office holders and also prune the usually bloated number of assistants, special assistants, and special advisers as many state governors are eager to appoint.

“We believe that the N30,000 minimum wage is barely enough for an average family to cope with the ever-rising cost of living, and meeting rising needs in Nigeria. The hitherto minimum wage of N18,000 is not only ridiculous but grossly inadequate. In fact, it could barely take the workers home,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the NIPR, Ondo state, in its 2019 Easter message has rejoiced with all Christians in the state and beyond.

“On the occasion of the Easter celebration which commemorates the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, the NIPR enjoins all and sundry to imbibe the love, perseverance, dedication, and admirable determination and focus to fulfill divine destiny as demonstrated by Jesus Christ. We also enjoin all Nigerian to demonstrate the love for all in the spirit of the season,” it stated.

In another development, the NIPR, Ondo state, has joined others to commiserate with the Chiefs, and the people of the historic town of Owo in particular and Nigeria in general on the passage of the revered Olowo of Owo, Oba Victor Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi who recently joined his ancestors.

“We believe the departed monarch left the ancient town better than he met it as evidenced by the unprecedented all-round developmentshe midwifed in the town. We also note with pride that the late Oba was an accomplished legal luminary, law teacher and administrator who birthed several lawyers and judges who are today stars in the legal firmament.

“We pray for the family that the almighty would grant the immediate family of the departed monarch, the chiefs and people of the town the fortitude to bear this great loss,” the statement said.
