Nine Convicted In Jos For Violating COVID-19 Lockdown

The mobile court sitting at the magistrate court west of mine Jos has convicted nine people for violating the stay at home lockdown directives of the plateau state government.

The convicts were placed on community services for failing to pay a prescribed fine labelled on them by the magistrate.

The Precision NG reports that the Nigerian Correctional Service, Plateau state Command with the action has set a precedence towards the implementation of the new correctional act as amended, that supplements decongestion of the correctional centers with community service on minor offences.

Following the directives by the Plateau state government on the stay at home lockdown policy, violators were either to pay the sum of ten thousand naira or serve a jail term.

The deputy Controller Correctional Service Plateau state Command, DCC Folorenso Marks stated the reasons the violators were directed to serve community on the streets.

He the inmates were directed to serve community on the streets of Ahmadu Bello way, Ibrahim Taiwo and Terminus market.

The lockdown order continue for the next six days with defaulters and violators of the directives from the state government paying or serving jail and in some instances serving community for the offence committed.
