Amid tough economy occasioned by the effect of coronavirus, residents of Akure, the Ondo state capital have protested the directive of the government to enforce a new order aimed at revalidation of vehicle documents.

The Precision NG reports that the deadline for vehicle owners to comply with this new directive in the state is September 15.

The government had during an awareness and enforcement exercise led by Mr Afolabi Daniyan in August, harped on the need for all vehicle owners in the state whose documents validation are obsolete to comply with the directive or face the full wrath of law.

Mr Daniyan cited among others the need to enhance adequate security in the state on why the government is embarking on the revalidation exercise at this period.

The Precision NG recalled that the state had faced a lot of security challenges recently paving way for the establishment of Amotekun Security outfit in August.

But a cross section of residents of the capital city, Akure who spoke to The Precision NG expressed displeasure that the government is enforcing such policy at a time the economy is struggling owing to the effects of covid-19.

The residents added that while some states are giving tax relief and holiday to the people, the Ondo state government is out to milk them the more.

Some also believed that since the revalidation policy of number plate had once been suspended by the federal government, the new move by the state government under any guise will bring more hardship especially at this critical period.
