Updated: Six UI VC Aspirants Back Cancellation Of Process As Ekanola Convenes Meeting

Six aspirants vying for the position of Vice Chancellor at the University of Ibadan, have backed the cancelation of the selection process.

They however called for a redo of the process.

The aspirants are Prof. Olatunde Layiwola, Institute of African Studies; Prof. Olapade-Olaopa College of Medicine; Prof. Temitope Alonge, College of Medicine and Prof. Adeyinka Aderinto of Social Sciences.

Others are Prof. Olusegun Ademowo, College of Medicine and Prof. Segun Kolawole, Language Education.

The six aspirants in a position paper exclusively obtained by ThePrecisionNG, called on the Acting VC, Prof. Babatunde Ekanola to as a matter of necessity kick start a new process.

Prof. Ekanola had called for the meeting on Tuesday to discuss issues bothering on the suspension of the selection process of a new VC for the institution.

Details of the meeting is yet to be made public, but the position of the Six Professors was that the issues raised in a letter dated November 23, by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to the institution should be followed.

They also demanded that major proponents of the suspended process should recuse themselves from the new process in order to have a fair deal.

Similarly, a Professor in the institution (name withheld) asked that the acting VC should recuse himself from the selection process, adding that he can’t also be a contender for the position.

The 18 aspirants who initially applied for the job are: Prof. Babatunde Salako, College of Medicine; Prof. Olatunde Layiwola, Institute of African Studies and Prof. R. A Lawal Arts Education (University of Ilorin).

Others are Prof. Segun Kolawole, Language Education; Prof. Olapade-Olaopa College of Medicine; Prof. Olatunde Rom Kalilu, Art History and Prof. Tal-hatu Kolapo College of Medicine.

Also in the race are Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, College of Medicine (University of Port Harcourt); Prof. Olatunde Farombi, College of Medicine; Prof. Temitope Alonge, College of Medicine and Prof. Adeyinka Aderinto of Social Sciences.

Others are Prof. Olusegun Ademowo, College of Medicine; Prof. Babatunde Adeleke; Prof. Kayode Adebowale, Science; Prof. Raji-Oyelade A., Arts; Prof. Anthony Onifade, Science; Prof. Femi Mimiko and Prof. Hassan Saliu

  1. The process should start denovo, without wasting time. The controversially elected representatives of the Senate and Council should recuse themselves. A new advertisement should be done. The former remains invalid
