We Must Preserve Our Culture For Future Generation – DG NCMM

A call has been made to indigenous communities in Nigeria to preserve and conserve their cultural heritage for onward transmission to future generation.


The call was made by the Director General National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Prof. Abba Isa Tijani, at the occasion of the international day for monuments and sites celebration held in Butura bokos local government of plateau state.


Represented by the curator National Museum Jos, Mr Fodamijo Olamayo, the DG who revealed that the day was set aside to draw attention of stake holders to preserve both natural and man made monument culture and traditions.


Also gracing the event was the plateau state commissioner for culture and tourism Tamwakat weli called on communities in the state to search for tourists sites in their communities and informed government for onward preservation.


In a paper presentation by Architect Kamndu Ibrahim of the institute of Archeology and museums studies Jos stressed the need for indigenes to rewrite their own history rather than rely on those written by foreigners.


In another paper presentation by the Jos zoo manager Mary Ohaegu emphasized the need for humanity to desist from the act of natural disturbance.


High point of the event was the foundation laying ceremony for the restoration of Tash Timbag Butura Stone coarse-way.
