February Congress: Ondo NUJ Greets Akeredolu, Wants Journalists Appointed As Permanent Secretary

After extensive deliberations by members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ondo state on Thursday, the following decisions were taken as follows:

1. That the Union congratulates our Grand Patron, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, and his new Deputy, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa on their Inauguration to pilot the affairs of the state for another four years, urging them to build on successes recorded in the first term. 
2. That Ondo NUJ reminds Governor Akeredolu of his promise to correct injustice against our senior members working with the State government by appointing at least one of the qualified Directors (who are Journalists/Information Managers) as Permanent Secretary.
3. That as a result of poor turnout for the payment of #6,000 per plot owner for the Pen Estate various urgent projects, the Congress concludes that fresh two weeks ultimatum should be be given to the Subscribers and after the expiration, the Union should take drastic measures that will make land owners to take full responsibility of their asset.

The Congress also directs the Executives of the Union to convene another Pen Estate Stakeholders’ meeting within two weeks as rainy season will soon set in. It was also agreed at the Congress that any subscriber who sells his/her plot of land without the permission of the Union, would solely be responsible for any future challenge. 

4. That the Congress asks members at NTA, ADABA FM and OSRC chapels to immediately communicate the State Secretariat for the conduct of their Chapels elections for smooth running of the union and protection members’ welfare.
5. That the Congress commends the State leadership of our Union for another phase of ongoing face-lift of facilities at our Press Centre,  Alagbaka Akure.
6. That the Congress notes with concern the disturbing rate of insecurity across the Country especially kidnapping of school pupils; and calls on Governor Akeredolu not to relent in empowering Amotekun Corps to tackle security challenges facing Ondo state, while security agencies should up their games against bandits and kidnappers.
