Diamond group has enjoined President Muhammadu Buhari to address growing injustice in the country as a panacea to checkmating insecurity in the country.

The group in a communique made available to The Precision NG at the end of its second technical session on Friday, also called for a balance in the appointments into public service in the country.

The group through ArchDiamond Toyyib Musa-Omoloja, however believed that there is the need for an urgent restructuring of the system in order to accommodate growing agitations from some sections of the country.

Below is the full text of the communique:

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE TECHNICAL SESSION OF DIAMOND GROUP HELD ON FRIDAY 25TH MAY, 2021.

Arising from the 2nd Technical Session of Diamond Group on the theme: Restructuring and its Implication to the Nigerian Polity, the group observed that :

• The consistent agitation for restructuring by the citizenry is borne out of the perceived injustice and imbalance that define governance and public service in Nigeria.

• The pervasive insecurity and other ills ravaging the country cannot be disconnected from the extremely poor governance and maladministration that have become synonymous with public service over the years.

After critical examination of the concept of restructuring and the several offshoots of the agitations from all parts of Nigeria including recent political developments in the country, the group resolves as follows:

  1. That the concept of restructuring is never a poisoned chalice that some parts of the country made it look like, and that as a matter of fact, it is an integral part of the panacea for the troubles of Nigeria
  2. That as beautiful as the concept of restructuring is, without the citizenry internalising the ideals of citizenship, restructuring their mindset by disciplining themselves in accordance with ethical principles and moral conducts, deriving the envisaged benefits from the reworking of the structure of the country will be a mirage
  3. That the group supports in totality, the Southern Governors resolutions on true federalism and good governance, ban of open grazing and other fine details of the accord reached by the Governors in Asaba, Delta State
  4. Further, that the group considers repulsive the vexatious response of the Federal Government to the Southern Governors resolutions.
  5. That the group considers the outburst of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami as totally unenlightened, and highly provocative
  6. That the group equally condemns in strong terms the attempt by unknown gunmen to destabilize the southeastern part of Nigeria and make it ungovernable.
  7. That the Federal Government should desist from chasing shadows, deal decisively with the challenges militating against the peace and prosperity of our dear country by restructuring the country, channeling the energy of the people to nation building, healing the fracture lines in the polity and generally emplace good governance to turn the fortunes of the country around.
