Ondo Govt Unhappy About Primary School’s Properties Vandalization. Vows To Prosecute Vandals

Ondo State Government has vowed to deal ruthlessly with anybody caught vandalizing government properties especially public primary schools the present administration is working around the clock to up grade in oder to make teaching and learning more attractive at that level.

The Chairman of Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board Rt Hon Victor Olabimbtan made vow during an on the spot assessment of schools whose properties were destroyed and vandalized within akure metropolis during the just concluded long holiday by some unpatriotic citizens.

At St Theresa’s RCM Primary School where the corpse of a man was found recently the whole school was like a war scene as all the four structures in the premises were in the state of complete disarray and an eyesore. All the roofing sheets, windows and roofing sheets removed.

The Head Teacher who took the team round the abandoned school and structures informed the team that because of what happened at the school and activities of hoodlums and vandals the school management has to relocate the pupils school nearby in order not affect their learning during the new academic session pending when the authority attend to their needs.

Addressing the Press after the tour that took the Board to L.A Primary Schools 1, 11 and 1V at Popoola Street besides the Akure Stadium and St Thressa’s RCM Primary School and St Peter’s Demonstration Primary School off Oyemekun Road and besides St Peters Unity Secondary School Hon Olabimtan said this unpatriotic attitude can not be allowed to thrive.

According to his the administration of Arakunrin oluwarotimi Akeredolu Governor of Ondo State has invested so much in the development of basic education especially in recruitment of teaching and non – teaching staff, reconstruction and renovation of schools building allow some few disgruntled few people in our midst to pull back the hands of the clock.

Olabimtan said the Board was directed by the Governor to embark on the assessment tour of facilities of the vandalized schools properties visited following reports with a view to knowing the extent of the damage inflicted and level of repair to be carried out.

Olabimtan who was visibly disturbed by the level of vandalization of properties condemned the non challant attitude of Nigerians to protection of public properties especially people living and making a living around the places they are sited.

To forestall reoccurrence of this ugly scenes he said the Board will fence off the landscape of the schools to safe guard the life of pupils and staff alike and protect the properties from vandals trespassers and criminals that have turned the school premises to the dens of criminals and never do well in the Society.

A cursory examination of the vandals activities in tbe schools visited include total and partial removal of long span roof sheets, aluminum windows frame, windows, doors and electrical appliances including stealing of water pumps and electrical fittings.
