The Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Kiladejo, Jilo III, and the people of Ondo have made known their stand on the proposed relocation of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) from the city.

The Osemawe, who was represented by Prof. Femi Mimiko, former Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, at the public hearing held last week on the issue, rejected the move to relocate the institute from Ondo.

The public hearing tagged NIEPA (Establishment) Bill 2022, was sponsored by the Senator representing Ondo Central at the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Ayo Akinyelure.

Prof. Mimiko, who made known the position of the Ondo people in a terse message posted on his Facebook profile at the weekend, said the public hearing was instructive.

“Greatly honoured to represent the Òsemàwé and Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty Oba Dr Victor Adesimbo Ademefun Kiladejo, Jilo III, CFR, and present Ondo community’s position on the well considered Bill.

“It certainly does not make neither a political nor an economic sense relocating NIEPA from where it has operated for 30 years, to a different geo-political zone!

“It is that the Institute should continue to operate from Ondo, where it occupies an expanse of land measuring some 801 hectares, and with a full complement of infrastructural facilities,” Mimiko said.

The National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) has existed in Ondo, Ondo State, since it was established in 1992.
