Absence Of Good Governance In Nigeria Responsible For ‘Japa Syndrome’ – Don

The College of Law, Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, on Thursday held her Annual Public Lecture.

The event was held at the Abubakar Rasheed Auditorium hall of the institution and was honoured by some dignitaries of the institution.

The Lecture which was titled “NIGERIAN FEDERALISM AND THE REALIZATION OF THE OBJECTIVES OF A STATE: Issues, Prospects and Challenges”, was delivered by Dr Olaniyi Felix Olayinka.

The Lecture was aimed at the ongoing discourse surrounding regionalization and the restructuring of the States and the effects it has on the citizens.

Dr Olayinka, who is a lecturer at the Department of Private and Property Law, Redeemer’s University, Ede, stated that states must be legitimate to facilitate their smooth running and the government must take its stand by following the 3-P’s (Protection, Provision and Participation).

He further attributed the “Japa Syndrome” to be as a result of the government’s failure of good governance which has led to insecurities in the country.

“The challenges of good governance in Nigeria is as a result of foreign interest and complicity in maladministration and the issue of God Fatherism,” he said.

He, however recommended that bringing back the parliamentary system of government will go a long way in restructuring Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Pro Chancellor of Achievers. University, Hon. Dr Bode Ayorinde expressed optimism and hope for a better Nigeria.

He added that governments at all levels need to be sincere to enjoy the trust of the people.

The Dean of College of Law, Dr Samson Ayobami Joshua, in an interview said Public lecture will go along way in helping the institutions in the aspect of information.

Dr Samson however, admonished the citizens to stay back and develop the country instead of embracing Japa Syndrome.
