The Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo. Mrs. Oluseto Abidemi Olatuyi, and nine other eminent Nigerians have been conferred with awards by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ondo State Chapel.
Olatuyi in recognition of her sterling performance was awarded “Distinguished Information Manager of the Year”, at an event to mark the 2024 correspondent’s day celebration held recently in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
In his address, the Chairman, Correspondent’ Chapel, Comrade Tosin Ajuwon, expressed appreciation to individuals, groups and organizations who supported the union in its efforts at contributing its quota to national development.
On the rationale behind the conferment of award on the ten eminent Nigerians, Ajuwon said the step was taken in recognition of their (awardees) contributions to humanity, and the advancement of the Nigeria nation.
“NUJ had noticed with great admiration Olatuyis’ efforts and contributions to Information Management in Ondo State, and Nigeria at large, and had decided to recognized her”.
Describing the roles which journalists play in society as very important, the Ondo NUJ Correspondent Chapel Chairman, therefore, urged media practitioners in the state to abide with the ethics of their profession, in the discharge of their duties.
He reiterated the commitment of his leadership to the attainment of goals of the union, while seeking more support and cooperation from members.
In his welcome address, the Chairman Organizing Committee of the 2024 Correspondent day celebration, Mr. Olabisi Longe, explained that the event was put together in order to appreciate God and to chart a way forward for members of the union as they prepare for the forthcoming gubernatorial election coming up in the state in few months’ time.
Longe lauded members of the 2024 Correspondent Day Committee, for their dedication, as well as all the people who made contributions towards the success of the celebration.
On the theme of this year Celebration, “Electioneering: Roles and Responsibilities of the Media”, the Chairman 2024 Correspondent Day Committee, expressed optimism on the ability of the lecture presenter to do justice to the topic stating that members of the union, and invited guests, would gain more knowledge at the end of the lecture presentation
In a paper presented on the occasion entitled: Electioneering: Roles and Responsibilities of the Media” by the Head of Department of Mass Communication, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Dr. Olugbenga Abimbola, emphasized the need for journalists to take precaution before, during and after the conduct of the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State.
In addition, the renowned communication scholar, advised media practitioners in the state to be conversant with the Electoral Act, and refrain from any act, capable of bringing their media organizations into disrepute.
Dr. Abimbola also reminded journalists on the need for them to take care of their safety and avoid any confrontation with Law Enforcement Agencies during the election.
The highpoint of the ceremony was the conferment of award on some of the eminent personalities present at the occasion which included: Mr. John Adedamola Alamu; Mrs. Oluseto Abidemi Olatuyi; Pastor Akinola Olotu; Bishop (Dr.) Soji Gbadebo; Mrs. Olamide Falana and Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan.
Others also slated for award were; His Royal Majesty Oba Olajide David Okunato, Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Honourable (Chief) Olamide Adesanmi Oladiji, and Chief Akindele Akintomide Omole.
The event was attended by important personalities from all walks of life including the Chairman Ondo State NUJ, Prince Leke Adegbite among others.
