The commissioner for agriculture in Ondo state, Olayato Aribo has urged religious bodies to invest in farming as a form of employability for the less privileged.
Aribo gave the charge while answering questions from journalists at this month’s public affairs event – the circuit – organized by the news department of Ondo state radio vision corporation (OSRC).
The commissioner, a business man himself, observed that religious organizations with the successes recorded in the education sector, where huge investment had been committed in the last 30 years, should consider investing in the agriculture sector.
Aribo added that those who always approach these organizations for self-help could as well be engaged as workers in the farms. While they receive salaries, they will also have access to foods.
He reiterated, against this background, that Nigerians must face the reality that farming is the only solution to food security in the country.
He said government on its part is committed to providing farm seedlings as well as soft loans to farmers.
