President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday evening proceeded on annual leave to the United Kingdom.
Though unsigned, a terse statement retrieved by this online newspaper from the Facebook profile of Mr Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, indicated that the President will depart Abuja today Tuesday for a two-week vacation, which is part of his yearly leave.
“He will use the two weeks as a working vacation and a retreat to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms.
“He will return to the country after the leave expires,” the statement read.
President Tinubu was recently in the UK and only returned on September 16, 2024 to Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the statemwnt by Mr Onanuga did not state if the President has transfered power to his Vice, Kashim Shettima, as the constitution provides.
Section 145(1)(2) of the 1999 Constitution unambiguously provides that:
“Whenever the President is proceeding on vacation or is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office, he SHALL transmit a written declaration to the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives to that effect, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, the Vice-President shall perform the functions of the President as Acting President.”
