Ondo: Tragedy As Hoodlums Killed Commercial Driver With Charm

    Tragedy struck the ancient town of Arigidi Akoko north west local government area of Ondo state on Saturday when a 50 year old prince Akeem Olanipekun was allegedly beaten to death with a charm during a fright at Imo Quarters Arigidi Akoko.

    A witness disclosed that the late Akeem who hails from Ayase quarters is a commercial driver who accompanied his friend who owns a rental business to erect canopy yesterday at Imo Quarters for a social party when the fight started.

    Our correspondent gathered that it was said that late Akeem Olanipekun was approached by some miscreants popularly known as “area boys” for the payment of land money known as “owo-Ile” before the canopies could be erected.

    The witness said, “It was this that led to hot argument between the deceased and the boys who went home and brought the charm to beat Akeem for the non-payment of Owo Ile and which allegedly resulted in his death. There was tension because of possible reprisal attack from the family of late Prince who had two wives and some children”.

    Policemen from Okeagbe Akoko led by the DPO, SP Adetanranmi Ibitayo have been deployed to forestall further conflict and the suspected killer is now at large.
    The police Area Commander for Ikare Akoko command, ACP Razak Rauf confirmed the incident and promised to arrest the perpetrators who were now at large.

    When this correspondent visited Imo Arigidi the storey building where the principal suspect is living has been deserted as the corpse was deposited at suspected assailant’s house but report says the corpse was later taken to the mortuary of state speacialist hospital, Ikare Akoko while investigation continues.
