The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, has assured members of the University community of his administration’s commitment to the overall development of the University and wellbeing of workforce.
Prof. Ajibefun gave the assurance last week, during an interview programme on Radio AAUA, 90.3 FM. He said members of the University Community should expect him to sustain the degree of energy he has been deploying to work since he assumed office until the end of his tenure.
Prof. Ajibefun said, “Our People should expect me to sustain the zest and energies with which I started up to my last day in office. As Vice Chancellor, I remain very committed to the pursuits of everything that will enhance the welfare of staff and take the University to higher heights. I will continue to give priorities to those things that will promote academic excellence and improve on the University’s academic programmes.”
He used the medium to correct wrong impressions with regard to increments in tuition, saying, “The University has no plan to hike the institution’s fees as being speculated in some quarters.”
The VC, who said students would soon be called to resume for lectures, advised them to begin their on-line registrations, including payment of school fees and course registration.
He said Union’s deductions would be remitted to them as soon as subvention comes from the state government. He added that necessary steps were being taken with regard to staff Hazard Allowance, Career structure and other pertinent issues relating to staff welfare.
Prof. Ajibefun noted the University’s efforts with regard to students’ welfare, saying, “The University has been making good efforts in ensuring good care for the students. We have a Students’ Support Center, created last year after the new fees regime.
The center was created to take care of students with critical needs, especially financial needs. We also have scholarship scheme for students who make outstanding performances every session.
“The physically-challenged students have been placed on some level of scholarship and funding for their financial need. For instance, last session, the center supported the physically-challenged ones with a sum of Fifty Thousand Naira (#50,000).
Indigent students who have difficulties with tuition payments also received support from the University. The center provides at least 30% of the school fee on loan.
“We also have the Student Work-Study Scheme in place, which affords willing students opportunity to work for two hours daily and receive stipends to support themselves financially. The Work study scheme is very important because it has taken care of several students in the past. This session, we are going to expand the scheme to double the number we have been having before now.”
