The Oyemekun Grammar School Akure Old Students’ Association (OGSA OSA) has continued to turn around the fortunes of the 66 years old secondary school, located in Akure, the ondo state capital.
At its monthly meeting for April held at the school’s hall, the school principal, Chief S. T. Ojo who was the host commended the efforts of the OGSA OSA home and abroad for bringing back the ancient school to life.
He noted that courtesy of the Old Students, over 50 scholarships have been enjoyed by the students of OGSA, most especially the indigent ones among them.
“I have a list of indigent students in the school that is readily available for philanthropists,” Chief Ojo said.
Chief Ojo disclosed that the set of the lawmaker representing Akure South/North federal constituency, Hon. Afe Olowokeere and himself have been tremendious with the nearly completion of five blocks of classroom, adding that the lawmaker on his own has succeeded in constructing road networks in the school.
“Hon Afe Olowokeere has also urged us to liaise with the present representative, Hon Adedayo Omolafe in order to complete the remaining road networks in the school, as he has lobby it into the 2019 budget,” the principal said.
The Principal also praised the 1990 set for renovating the Physics laboratory, while also thanking the Lagos branch for the work done in the Biology laboratory.
He noted that the United Kingdom branch renovated the Library recently within a week, urging other sets of the school to make their impacts felt.
Chief Ojo also said the 1986, 1987 and 1988 sets have been consistent with their annual development projects which includes digging of boreholes in the hostel and construction/renovation of buildings.
He mentioned Mr Kunle Faleye in the diaspora who came around at a time and bought Sports kits for students participating in Sports.
“We have participated in 15 inter-house competitons within the state and I can tell you that the students won all,” he said.
One of the students who incidentally is a female of the HSC days, Mrs Kosemani Kolawole graced the meeting and announced her appointment as the new Chairman, Ondo State Micro-Credit Agency.
There was a minute silence for the departed souls of Prof Ogunlowo and late King of Ibule-Soro, Oba Falowo.
The Chairman, OGSA OSA, Akure branch, Rev’d Raphael Ikulamberu thanked the principal for his efforts at rallying round Old Students of the school, urging other sets to come up with projects that will give the “only school” a facelift.
Mr Sunkanmi Omojokun (2000 set) who spoke at the meeting said his set would celebrate 20 years of leaving OGSA in 2020, adding that the set would come up with a tangible project to mark the anniversary.
