As a requirement for practice as Medical Laboratory Technicians,an orientation and registration ceremony was carried out for 110 graduands of the Ondo State College of Health Technology.
Speaking during the registration and orientation ceremony for the 2017/ 2018 Medical Lab.Technician graduands, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro congratulated the graduands for the 100% performance in the Medical Laboratory Science Council Exams thus making them the best in the country.
Dr Adegbenro said the role of Medical Lab Technicians and Scientists is very important as accurate diagnosis is key in the proper treatment of any ailment.
While urging the graduands to improve themselves by seeking higher education, the Health Commissioner commended the Management of the school for doing a good job.
He said with the performance of the school, it may soon become degree awarding, as the government will not relent in its effort to ensure the institution is the best among it’s equals in the Country.
The Health Commissioner commended the Provost of the institution, Dr Felix Olawoye for his achievements and exemplary leadership qualities which he said is beginning to earn him commendation from far and wide as, Environmental Health Association of Nigeria recently gave him an Award as the best Principal of school of technology in Nigeria.
Dr Adegbenro promised that the State Government will reward the overall Best Student, Henry Ogundipe who graduated with a distinction.

The Principal of the school, Dr Felix Olawoye commended the graduands for distinguishing themselves through their dint of hard work which has resulted in their being considered for for registration by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.
He enjoined them to maintain the culture of hard work and good behavior inculcated in them and shun arrogance, inordinate ambition and all acts not in conformity with ethical purity.
The provost who was represented by his Vice, Mrs Abiodun Fowowe appreciated the State Government for according the school all nessesary support which has resulted in recent achievements recorded by the school which include : accreditation of all courses, building a State of the Art School Clinic with ultramodern Laboratory and other diagnostic facilities, building School Canteen,School Hall, Pharmacy Department among others.
Conducting the 6th Induction and Orientation ceremony, the Acting Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Mr Tosan Erhabor read out rules and regulations governing the practice of Medical Laboratory Science and stipulated sanctions for erring members.
Mr Erhabor who was represented by Mr Stanley Nkemakolam said the practice is for the mentally and physically strong but not without challenges.
He warned that the Technicians were not to practice independently but must work under the supervision of Medical scientists ,so they should not over step their boundaries.
Mr Nkemakolam made the inductees swear Oath of allegiance and sighed documents that was necessary for their admission into the Council.
Earlier in his welcome address, the HOD Medical Laboratory Technology, Mr Moses Oke, congratulated the graduands and their parents for the great feat achieved saying products of the School are well sought after.
Mr Oke stressed that products of the school had performed excellently wherever they had been assigned and this has earned the school accolades from far and wide.
Responding on behalf of the graduands, Mr Segun Adeniyi appreciated the Council for accepting them, the school for equipping them with what it takes to perform and succeed in life and promised on behalf of his colleagues to uphold the ethics of the profession.
In another development,the Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro has pledged commitment of the Ondo State Government to making the State College of Health Technology a world class institution that may award degrees in future.
The Commissioner made this statement while receiving members of the Health Record Officers Registration Board who were on an accreditation visit, and visited the Commissioner to intimate him of their findings.
Dr. Adegbenro informed the Board that the government is doing so much in the institution recently and working towards e – record keeping in all health facilities in the state.
The Teamlead , Mr Benson Oweghoro said accreditation visits are for quality control and to keep institutions on their toes ,while commending the institution for developments since since the last time they visited.
Mr Oweghoro intimated the management of the Ministry of Health of their findings and areas that need to be improved upon to include : Laboratory and Practice Area, Record Department of the Teaching Hospital and the need for staff of the institution to acquire higher education.
As a fall out of the accreditation visit, the school was given 5 years accreditation by the Health Records Registration Board of Nigeria .
