Principals of Secondary Schools in Ondo State have been fingered in the alleged extortion of parents and students who are planning to resume the new academic session next week.

This is coming after preliminary investigation into the matter has been concluded by members of the committee setup by the Speaker of the state, Rt Hon Bamidele Oleyelogun after the House of Assembly was petitioned by parents.

Hon. Simeon Toluwani Borokini, Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology in a statement through his media aide, Ayobamiji Komolafe noted with dismay how some principals in the state would want to undermine the integrity of the Government which is geared towards providing free education at the secondary level.

Alleged Extortion Of Parents and Students by Secondary School Principals

The house received petitions of alleged extortions going on in Secondary Schools within the state with burdened heart.

Mr Speaker, in person Rt Hon. Bamidele David Oleyelogun directed that we look into the petition.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Principals of some of the affected schools are the main culprit of these condemnable acts.

This subversion negates the State Government’s responsibilities at ensuring Free Education as well as other collectibles for the ease of our students in the state.

As the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, we strongly advise anyone in this unscrupulous business to desist or be ready to face the music.

We plead with all stakeholders to compliment the present administration’s efforts on education and not jeopardise it as we continue to contribute our quota geared towards restoring Ondo state to the enviable height of academic excellence nationwide.
