Lagos state government has called on all Local Government Chairmen to ensure that Sanitation Officers in the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas commence periodic inspection of drainage channels in their respective domains.

The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke made the call during her joint inspection tour with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Drainage and Water Resources, Mr. Joe Igbokwe to Mushin LG and Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, explained that the aim of the inspection exercise is to ensure that all primary and secondary drains in the State flow into appropriate channels.

She said that “The decision to embark on the joint inspection tour of drainage channels was a decision taken by the Executive Council to avert disease outbreak in the State as well as identify environmental challenges faced by residents in the rural settlements with a view to solving them”.

While noting that the present administration has prioritised maintenance of all infrastructures such as roads, bridges and water collectors in Lagos State, Arobieke enjoined residents to support government efforts in ensuring a clean and healthy environment by assisting the Council’s Environmental Sanitation Team and informing them of problem areas in their communities.
