An aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the July primary election in Ondo state, Chief Olayide Adelami says there would be total financial autonomy for the local government if he becomes the governor.
Adelami disclosed this at the National Secretariat of the APC after some concerned Ondo State indigenes under the aegis of Ondo Rescue Group picked the expression of interest and nomination forms on his behalf from the National Organising Secretary of the party, Barrister Emma Ibediro.
Addressing newsmen after receiving the forms from the group, Adelami said, “I am coming up for a rescue mission. Ondo State is endowed with a lot of resources after Lagos, I cannot think of any other State with resources like Ondo State but what has happened over the years is that these resources have been undertapped”.
According to the former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, “other leaders that have come on board at one time or the other have tried their best, but what I’m saying is that I want to improve on their best and take Ondo State to a higher level.

“I am prepared for this job. Over the years, I have been a technocrat in the National Assembly and have seen myself as techno-politician. Relating with politicians at the National Assembly, imbued me with many tactical political skills while I watched the games and intrigues from the sidelines.
“Looking at Ondo State over the years, I know what we need to do and if Ondo people give me their mandate, I am going to launch out immediately and not wait for weeks or months before I begin to execute my manifesto.
“For instance, local government autonomy is a burning issue in all the states of the federation and the first item on my manifesto, I am going to ensure total financial autonomy to local governments because I believe that the third tier is the government of the grassroots.
“If the statutory allocation to the local government is well spent in the council areas, the economic tempo of this tier of governance will increase and the pervasive poverty we are witnessing in Ondo State today will be a thing of the past”.
On the mode of election for the July 20 Ondo State Governorship primary, Adelami endorsed direct primary saying, “I believe in transparency and fairness and this can be guaranteed when we have a direct primary process that will give all members opportunity to have a say on who leads them”.
Adelami also at the event donated some Covid-19 precautionary items to the National Secretariat of the party.
The event was graced by scores of widows, orphans and students who all pledged their support for the philanthropist.
The leader of the widows, Mrs. Nkechi Okereke said the philanthropic gestures of many years by the aspirant is a ray of hope for all in Ondo State.
