Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Friday opened the 2021 African Cup of Nation (AFCON) qualifiers at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, Edo state.
The Nigerian team had a better game in the first half scoring 4 goals against the visiting Leone stars of Sierra Leone.
The visitors however scored a consolation goal before the half time break.
Upon resumption for the second half, the Leone Stars staged a remarkable comeback to draw 4-4 with the Super Eagles.
The Super Eagles had scored four-goal before the first half through a brace from Alex Iwobi and strikes from Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze.
The second leg is in Freetown next week.
Meanwhile, Nigerians took to the social media to react to the shocker from the visiting Leone stars.
A meme was made on the social media as to why the Nigerian Super Eagles will take their first game to the doorstep of the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki who recently won a reelection on the 4+4 mantra.
Aside the social media frenzies, angry soccer fans at the stadium booed the Super Eagles of Nigeria players after they drew Sierra and officials as they made their ways out of the arena.
They also called for the immediate sack of the Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr.
