The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), University of Ibadan, has insisted that the selection process of the 13th Vice Chancellor must follow due process in order to protect the image of the institution.
The union also distanced itself from last week Wednesday’s protest organized by non-academic staff of the institution, adding that it won’t tolerate subsequent abuse of its members under the guise of protest.
Ayoola Akinwole and Chris Omoregie, the Union’s chairperson and secretary in a joint statement after an emergency meeting on Friday, said contrary to media reports, its members were not part of the protest that disrupted the interview session for the new VC last week.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the disruption of the meeting of the governing council of the University of Ibadan that was convened to conclude the selection of the next VC of the University.
“We reaffirms our earlier appeal to the council that a level playing ground be given in the appointment of the next VC in order to protect the sanctity of the University autonomy,” the union said.
