The Ondo state House of Assembly has impeached the deputy speaker, Hon. Iroju Ogundeji.

Iroju representing Odigbo constituency 2 was impeached following the house resolutions led by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun.

Twenty lawmakers signed the impeachment.

Hon. Aderoboye has since replaced him.

“Iroju Ogundeji was impeached on the ground of gross misconduct which has brought disrepute to the hallowed chamber,” Oleyelogun said.

Similarly, Hon. Tomide Akinribido has been removed as the minority leader and replaced by Hon. Festus Akingbaso from PDP while Hon. Ogunmolasuyi (West) is the new majority leader following the reconstitution of the House.

Hon. Taofeek Oladele is now the new chief whip. He replaces Adeyemi Olayemi.

No official statement from the former deputy speaker on his controversial impeachment as at the time of this report.

In his reaction, Hon. Akinribido who is one of the ‘suspended’ lawmakers said the impeachment of the deputy speaker was a farce.

Akinribido maintained that they didn’t meet the constitutional requirement and should list the names of the 20 members that appended their signatures to the impeachment of the deputy speaker.

The former deputy speaker and three lawmakers were suspended by the House due to their stance against the impeachment of the the state deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure reinstated them last week, but the Pro-Akeredolu Assembly members insisted that they remain suspended.

Meanwhile, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is expected to present to the Assembly, the 2021 budget proposal on Friday.
