The National body worried by recent developments and seemingly degeneration in the leadership structure of the association called for an emergency special profited Congress on Saturday, 27th March, 2021 at the University Auditorium.

The Congress, amongst other issues, considered and resolved as follows:

ACCREDITATION

REPORTS ON RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
LETTER BY DR. STEPHEN FASAKIN TO VC ON ELECTION OF CONVOCATION REP TO COUNCIL:

Congress observed that Dr. Fasakin’s letter was a direct attack on the image of the Association, self-serving and ill-conceived. It is a complete embarrassment to our teeming members as it fails to represent the good image and protect the time-tested harmonious relationship of the Association with the University. Hence, Congress detest in strong term the letter and appreciated the initial reaction of the association and, resolved that the person and personality of Dr. Fasakin be relieved of his position in leading the association.

COMPLICIT DISPOSITION OF THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE

In spite of the recalcitrant nature of Dr. Fasakin, it is expected that the National Executive Committee will call the said Dr Fasakin to order. In the light of the docile nature of the National Executive Committee, the Congress resolved that the National Executive Committee be dissolved.

STATUS OF DR. FASAKIN WITH THE ASSOCIATION

Congress took updates on the leadership style and high-handedness of Dr. Fasakin ranging from unilateral decision in suspending duly elected members of exco, use of association fund for the illegal formation of a parallel body called the Association of Nigeria Universities Alumni (ANUA). It was alleged that Dr. Fasakin since assumption of office has relied solely on the Association’s funds for personal needs.

Congress adopted motion to ratify the suspension of Dr. Fasakin pending determination of all issues raised against his person.

Consequently, Congress resolved as follows, that:

The National Executive Committee led by Dr. Stephen Olawale Fasakin be dissolved with immediate effect.

A Caretaker Committee comprising of 4 Chapter Chairmen and the representative of Unilorin Branch be constituted with immediate effect for a period of 3 months in the first instance and may be extended to six (6)months if necessary.

The Caretaker Committee be charged with the day to day running of the activities and be empowered to represent the association.

Congress concluded that efforts should be doubled to bring all stray members of the Union on board and, intensify plans to continue to enjoy good relationship with the University management, staff, students and the host community.

Congress express its appreciation to the University Administration for providing a conducive environment for holding a peaceful congress and also thank all members for honouring us with participation.
