One of the celebrated journalists and a retired Director, National Youth Service Corps Alhaji Abdulwahab Obomeile has challenged the youths to work hard and stop being complacent.

Alhaji Obomeile who retired from the noble Scheme as Director, Community Development Service threw the challenge when he addressed the 2021 Batch ‘A’ (Stream 1) corps members at Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.

The Director, who rose to the post of Sub Editor in the old Daily Times before moving to the NYSC advised the corps members to be outstanding and unique in their areas of interest or specialisation so that the world can celebrate them.

He observed that road to success is full of challenges and named such qualities such as persistence, perseverance, commitment and consistency as areas that can make them stand out.

“My dear children in the national service, you need to add value to yourselves by upgrading and developing your creative ideas into reality and not just have the dream. Dream is free but pursuing it to a logical reality will put you on a global map”.

Alhaji Obomeile admonished the corps members to cultivate healthy relationships as this will become useful in the nearest future.

According to him, the future belonged to those who value and respect fellow human beings.

“Friendship cultivated right from the camp and throughout the service year can blossom into cordial or intimate relationships which will open new chapter in the nearest future. I am a living witness and I want you to cultivate the habit of establishing and sustaining long lasting relationships”.

Alhaji Obomeile who is a Public Relations Consultant disclosed that NYSC is the best thing to happen in this country because the Scheme is a catalyst for unity and integration.

“Wherever you go all over the country, Nigeria graduates under the umbrella of NYSC are giving their best to develop the nation in various capacities be it education, agriculture, health, rural development etc. What this translates to is that the Scheme is building bridges across all divides and uniting the citizens of this great country”.

“Most importantly, the Scheme is grooming you to be better individuals and great leaders in a foreseeable future. The orientation programme you are undergoing is packaged in such a way that you will understand the diversity of our socio-cultural environment and how best to live peacefully and harmoniously with ourselves”.

“NYSC through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme has provided you with uncommon platform to be independent and empowered. Take all the trainings seriously and you will never regret that decision because the management has selected passionate Trainers and Facilitators who are very committed to give you what it takes to rule the world”.

He encouraged them to embrace information technology and surf the internet always to be abreast of the happenings around the world which he opined has become highly competitive.

“As highly mobile youths with broad knowledge and instincts, I want you to take advantage of information technology to broaden your horizon but restrain yourselves from engaging in acts capable of undermining the corporate existence of Nigeria, rather you should strive and engage in legitimate activities that will put you at par with your colleagues across the globe” he said.

On a parting note, the one time Director, Press and Public Relations who also served in Ondo State as Coordinator between 2004 and 2008 advised the members of the service corps not to use their position to oppress anyone either during or after the service year.

While welcoming the Public Relations guru, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani told the corps members that they were blessed to have the distinguished senior citizen in their midst.

“Gentlemen corps members, there is nothing you can compare wisdom and knowledge with and I am happy to inform you that our retired but not tired Director will bless you richly with his wealth of experience as a seasoned journalist and well grounded administrator of no mean feat”.

The State Coordinator appreciated Alhaji Obomeile for accepting to come and impact on the patriotic and energetic citizens who have pledge to see themselves first as Nigerians.
