Femi Mimiko, a Professor of Political science at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, has advised the Nigerian government to rescind his decision to ban Twitter in the country.
He gave the advise on Saturday via his Facebook profile.
The government had on Friday, through the media aide to communication Alhaji Kai Mohammed announced the indefinite suspension of the platform.
The suspension had since been effected with no Nigerians having access to the platform, except those accessing it through VPN.
Mimiko, a former Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, was of the view that such suspension is unnecessary.
He said, “at times like these, it is better to not escalate tension.”
He urged the federal government to reverse quickly its decision, adding that it is more rewarding than wielding the stick.
“Suspension of Twitter operations by Nigeria is unnecessary. A quick reversal is advised. Promises to be much more rewarding than wielding the big stick, which the suspension represents,’ he said.
