The APC in Ondo State has described the killing of a seasoned journalist, Mr. Olubunmi Afuye, by gunmen as shocking, and smacked of callousness.
Afuye, who is the Public Relations Officer of Elizade University in Ilara Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of the State, was shot by robbers who attacked a commercial bank in the town on Thursday.
Two other persons were killed in the incident.
Reacting to the death of the Ace Broadcaster, Ondo APC through its Spokesperson, Alex Kalejaye, described Bunmi’s clear and penetrating voice as always captivating and attention catching.
“He was arguably one of the best around. He was amiable, but courageous, even till the untimely end.”
Without contention, the APC-led government places unequalled premium on security of lives and property. This singular event will further ginger the government to entrench its security tentacles even deeper.
The party urges security agencies to swing into action, and track down the mindless killers of Olubunmi and others that were terminated at the scene, so they could face the wrath of the law.
Ondo APC commiserates with the Nigerian Union of Journalists, particularly the State branch, the immediate families of the deceased, and pray God to grant the departed eternal rest.
Meanwhile, the PDP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, described the news of the gruesome murder of Olubunmi Afuye by armed robbers in Ilara-mokin, Ifedore Local Government Area, came as a very rude shock. The media world has lost a rare gem, a promising star, extinguished at his prime.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ondo State chapter, commiserates with his wife, children, members of his extended family, and indeed the Ondo State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).It is such an irreparable loss.
Our party wishes to urge the security agencies, especially the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, to fish out the criminals who committed this dastardly act and bring them to book without delay.
Olubunmi Afuye was a young man that warmed himself to the hearts of many, majority of whom may not even know him in person. He was a darling of the Orange F.M before he joined Elizade University, Ilara Mokin as Public Relations Officer.
May God Almighty, grant all those he left behind the fortitude to bear this loss.
Similarly, the Ondo State Chapter of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has expressed its deep shock and sadness on the sudden death of an ace broadcaster,Mr Olubunmi Afuye.
The Chapter is more saddened,as death has robbed the Institute of the brilliant ideals of this thorough bred professional who was on the verge of being inducted as a member of NIPR before his sudden demise in the hands armed robbers.
While condemning the killing of this brilliant, vibrant and eloquent journalist in strong terms, the Institute calls on the security agents to speedily bring the perpetrator of this heinous crime to justice
Ondo NIPR sympathises with the wife and children of the deceased,Ondo NUJ,OSRC Media Group and Elizade University, llara Mokin.
