Group Celebrates Islamic New Year In Jos

Youths have been called upon to shun all vices capable of robbing them of their senses and influencing their minds to perpetrate violence.


The Chief Imam of Jos, Sheikh Lawal Adam stated this on the occasion of the celebration of the new Islamic calendar year held at Jos the Plateau state capital.


The Jos Central Mosque was full to capacity with Islamic Scholars, Clerics, Community Leaders, Public office holders as well as Arabic and Islamic Schools in Plateau state.

The ceremony was organized by the Association of Arabic and Islamic Teachers of Primary and middle schools, “ITTIHADU ANWARUL HIDAAYAH’, were Pupils recited the Arabic poems ushering the new Islamic year.


In his keynote address, the Chief Missioner (Murshid), JNI Jos north, Ustaz Mustapha Ali Gwarando, noted that the new Islamic YEAR signifies good fortunes, therefore called on Muslim faithful’s to pray, fast and extend gifts to their neighbors Muslims and non-Muslims as exemplified by the noble Prophet of Islam.


In his message to the Muslim-Ummah, the Chief Imam of Jos, represented by his Deputy, Sheikh Ghazali Isma’ila Adam enjoined Muslims, particularly the Youths to desist from acts causing violent conflict as Islam is the religion.


In his speech, the chairman Association of Arabic and Islamic Teachers of Primary and middle schools, “ITTIHADU ANWARUL HIDAAYAH’, Alhaji Yusuf Yahaya (Sarkin malamai) speaks more on the organization of the event.


Alh Yusuf Yahaya opined that, a philantrophist Sadiq Aljumah donated two million naira, which was used to purchase both learning and non-learning materials for over twenty schools in three of its zones in the state.

Highlights of the events were presentations of certificates, recitation of Islamic poems, and match passes through the city center.
