Robbers Disappointed After Attacking An Empty Bullion Van In Owo. Two Persons Shot

It was a case of disappointment and mission unaccomplished as robbers attacked a bullion van that belongs to a commercial bank along the Akure-Benin expressway on Wednesday.

The attack happened in Emure town in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to an eyewitness, the robbers opened fire at the police escort of the bullion van at about 2.40pm, immediately after the T-junction in Emure town when departing Owo for Akure, the Ondo state capital.

The Precision NG gathered that the incident happened during the Emure market day when buying and selling have already reached their peaks.

The Traders (who are mostly women), Buyers and Drivers had to scampered to different directions for safety. The market immediately turned to a ghost town.

A Taxi Driver informed The Precision NG that he was returning to Emure town from Owo after picking his Children from School, when an Okada rider ran towards him shouting, “Egbon, turn back… Ole… Ole – Robbers… Robbers.”

The Driver said he had to take refuge in one of the villages along the new Owo-Emure road.

The Precision NG also gathered that two persons were shot by the robbers in the attack.

One is a police officer who was on the convoy convening the bullion van. The other was an elderly man who was attacked at the police station along Emure-Eporo road, where the robbers headed after the failed robbery. The Emure-Eporo road leads to Ekiti State.

The robbers it was gathered shot at the police station, which was on the road side when they were leaving the town on Wednesday afternoon.

The elderly man according to sources often sit under a tree beside the police station to play with police officers but was unfortunate as the robbers’ bullet hit him in his arm.

Both the policeman and the elder man are receiving treatment in an undisclosed health facility.

Confirming the robbery attack, police spokesperson in Ondo State, Funmi Odunlami said the police command with other security formations have already swung into action.

“I can confirm the attack on the bullion van, but it was an empty van. One of our officers was hit by the bullet of the robbers and he is being attended to in a hospital.”

Odunlami assured that the hoodlums will soon be apprehended by police from the command.
