The Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo City, Ondo State, Dr Samuel Akinrinola Akintunde has expressed happiness about the existence of the Ondo State Online Media Professionals (OMP).
Dr Akintunde made the remark while playing host to members of OMP in his office on Wednesday.
He said the Online mode of news reporting is a very powerful one, as it is known for breaking news ahead of other known media of communication.
The Provost therefore urged the Association to uphold objectivity in its reportage by fact-checking news stories before use.
He specifically mentioned the College’s reservation about an Online Platform (not in Ondo State) on how it handled a report about the institution recently without recourse to getting their side of the story.
“We are happy that an Association like this exist. We urge you to always verify and cross-check your news before disseminating it.
“The only issue I have with the Online Media is about verifying stories. Most of them are always eager to break the story first and end up giving unbalanced story. If this is being adequately regulated, then no doubt, the Online Media will serve as the best platform,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of OMP, Hakeem Adebumiti who spoke on behalf of the Association, congratulated the Provost on his appointment.
Adebumiti urged the Provost to always relate with the Association, while promising him of adequate coverage of activities in the Institution.
He noted that the future of Journalism is in digital communication.
Other executive members of OMP on the visit are the Secretary, Tope Adedeji and Assistant Secretary, Isaac Olasainde.
The College’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Oluseto Olatuyi and A Senior Information Officer in the College, Mr Daramola Abayomi, joined the Provost to receive members of OMP.
