The warring Irigwe and Fulani communities in Plateau State on Wednesday met with Governor Simon Bako Lalong to find lasting solutions to the recurring violence in some areas of Bassa Local Government Area of the state.
This is the second time within two weeks that the leaders of the two communities met with the governor after series of attacks in the Bassa area of the state and the killings that followed in other parts of Jos.
The two groups blamed each other for the deadly attacks.
The meeting, which was held at the Government House, Jos, had the representatives of the two sides under one roof.
They presented their positions on how to achieve lasting peace and security in the area.
Both Irigwe and Fulani had earlier met with the Governor separately where expressed readiness to forgive one another and coexist under a peaceful atmosphere.
They also agreed to further sit together and fine-tune issues that are causing conflicts.
Governor Lalong, after listening to the two groups, said the government would ensure that criminals are arrested and prosecuted within the ambit of the law.
He, however, said the responsibility of living in peace lies with the citizens, who must come together and identify the criminals.
He assured them that he would be glad to go to Irigwe land to witness the signing of the agreement when it is fine-tuned.
He directed the Peace Building Agency to follow up and midwife the process.
