Hon Abiola Makinde, Member representing Ondo East and West Federal Constituency in conjunction with his wife’s non-governmental organisation, Dr Rhoda Makinde Initiative, DROMI, on Friday empowered another set of widows in Ondo.
Moshood Alli, special adviser on media and publicity to Hon. Makinde in a statement at the weekend said, the empowerment programme was held at Oba Adesanoye civic centre with dignitaries and government functionaries within the constituency in attendance.
Hon. Makinde, who is the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Federal Character after distributing clothes and food packages to the widows, also provided for other attendees at the event.
The elated widows who couldn’t contain their excitement amid songs and praises, thanked Hon. Makinde and his wife for salvaging them in the face of the harsh economy.
Hon Makinde while speaking to newsmen after the event, noted that more empowerment programmes are underway.
In his words, “We appreciate our women for always making out time to attend these kinds of event put in place to intervene in their welfare on periodic basis. It is the dream of my wife and I to touch as many lives as we possibly could, positively.
“There is no denying the reality that we have a harsh economy to contend with but this fight is not only for the government, it is our collective responsibility as humans to look out for one another, after all, you are all we got.”
