A group of persons with visual impairment in Ondo State has hailed Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the recruitment of 38 persons living with disabilities (PLWD) into the civil service.
This is contained in a statement signed by its Chairman, Sefini Adekola and Secretary, Kayode Abel and made available to The Precision NG on Friday to commemorate this year’s White Cane Day.
“You are the First in the State to run an inclusive government by involving and creating a room for Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD). Giving us an office of special assistance on disabilities matters, constitution of the board of agency for the welfare of persons with disabilities in which persons with disabilities are members and Chairman of the Agency. This really prove to us your undiluted love towards us in the State.
“we pray that God Almighty will grant you success in all your endeavours and your reward will not end on this earth,” the statement added.
The group however implored the Akeredolu government to mandate the private organizations or companies to consider PLWD in their recruitment process and that government should come up with a law that will make them to comply.
It also appealed to parents, guidance to contact the Agency setup by government for PLWD for the welfare of their physically challenged children or adult to enjoy the necessary facilities put in place by the government.
The statement appreciated all the media houses in the State for conveying the group’s sensitization messages on the significance use of the White Cane by the visually impaired.
“To the motorists, we pray for more commitment. We also appreciate all the road users in the State for their friendly act towards people like us most especially when crossing the road, we asked for more cooperation and patience.
“Once again, congratulation to all persons with visual impairment in the State for us witnessing this another glorious day. We pray that we shall witness more in wealth and health condition of life.
“It is a great joy for God allowing us to witness this day October 15, a day set aside to celebrate people with Visually Impairment especially to enlighten members of the public on the significance of White Cane in our lives.
“White Cane is a special cane designed for persons with visual impairment to navigate their ways without the assistance of the sighted ones. The white-cane symbolizes freedom and independent in our life,” the statement read.
