Why Community Development Would Be My Priority – New Rotary President

The new President of Rotary Club of Akure, District 9125, Rotarian Olalekan Oni, has promised to give priority to more community projects and activities targeted at empowering and developing communities in his one year tenure as governor for 2021-2022.

Oni who stated this during his investiture as the 41st President of the club said he would focus on some projects that will affect the lives of the people living in the rural area positively.

The new President pledged to support the club with opportunities that would provide more services to humanity, while he assured that there would be a lot of opportunities for members to render service to humanity.

He listed some of rge communities to be touched to include, Ajipowo, Imafon, Olugere, and some other villages within and outside Akure metropolis and Ondo state as a whole.

He said ” it is our resolve to complete our outstanding projects of Imafon Community School project, to make the place conducive for pupils to learn.

“We will also carry out Cataract surgery for 100 patients across the state, a joint project of all Rotary Club in Akure and by extension Ondo state.

“The back to school project will be carried out in two selected schools, provisions of modern wheel chair and scholarship for physically challenged FUTA undergraduate students”

He also disclosed that the ongoing handpump water project at Ajipowo and Olugere villages which is a joint project sponsored by the club with Benin/Owena River Basin, RUWASA will be completed.

According to him, “in line with Rotary humanarian tradition, these can be made possible with the support of you all.

“The theme for the Rotary year is “Serve to Change Lives” and you will agree with me that to effect change particularly positive and impactful one.

“This requires a lot of sacrifices and commitment from the part of those that want it happen, hence our unalloyed commitments as Rotarians of our 3Ts of Time, Treasure and Talents.

The Chairman of the planning committee, Prof. Deji Fasuyi, who emphasized that the essence of Rotary is service to humanity as the hallmark of human existence is to grow and better humanity farther then it was met.

He said the achievements of the current President of Akure Rotary Club is hinged on the cooperation of members and all , particularly those who have the means and spirit of charity in giving to the unique project of the club.

Fasuyi said the club would continue to embark on community development and see to the eradication of some deadly diseases within these communities, saying “the recent role of Rotary in the eradication are key to the socioeconomic development of the state poliomyelitis in the world including Nigeria which was one of the country to be salvaged from the ravages of polio.” (NigerianTribune)
