Achievers University Holds Commendation Service For Late VC. Names Auditorium After Him

Achievers University, Owo on Wednesday held a commendation service and candle procession for its ex Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tunji Ibiyemi who died on September 9, 2021.

Ibiyemi was the second VC of the Ondo State based institution and spent Six years, Three months in the position.

In his message title, “In Sweet Memory Of My Friend,” the Pro-Chancellor of Achievers University, Dr Bode Ayorinde disclosed that the auditorium at the new College of Engineering building would be named after him.

“By providence, Engr Prof Tunji Ibiyemi became the 2nd Vice Chancellor of the young Achievers University, and resumed for duty on 1st July 2014. He was in the saddle of that historical office for 6 years 3 months. An appointment that was originally meant for 4 years was extended due to exemplary performance.

“In my relationship with Professor Tunji Ibiyemi, I saw in him a thorough professional Engineer, a complete gentleman, a very honest and sincere man both in words and acts, a very ambitious soul with lofty ideas to conquer the world. More importantly, I remember Prof. Ibiyemi as a praying Christian who abhorred the use of medicine, not even analgesic.

“Of spectacular note for a long time savour, is the College of Engineering programmes and building which he midwived during his tenure as Vice Chancellor. The Engineering Auditorium shall be named after him as Prof Tunji Ibiyemi Hall, in memory of his noble service in the University Community.

“Prof. Tunji Samuel Ibiyemi, to say I miss you will be an understatement. You have come and played your part, you have conquered death and made your mark in the history of time. Achievers University Community will continue to remember you for your commitment to excellence, Professor “Masa Masa”, accompanying your tasks with the “speed of light”, as we continue as particles in the stream of life waiting for inevitable discharge. Adieu My Vice Chancellor, sleep on my friend and brother in Christ, continue to rest in peace till we meet to part no more. May the God Almighty continue to preserve and protect all you left behind,” Ayorinde said.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, 11th November, 2021 at 4pm, Service of Songs/Wake keep for the late VC will hold at Atlantic Events Hall, Ilorin, while Friday, 12th November, 2021 at 10am, the Funeral Service will hold at Living Faith Church, Ilorin.

Late Professor Tunji Samuel Ibiyemi was born on January 2, 1954 at Aiyetoro-Gbedde, Kogi State.
