Adefolalu Cautions Women On Drug Abuse

The Ondo State Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mrs Adelayo Adefolalu has urged women to consider the consequences of drug abuse to the society.

Adefolalu was speaking at the Convention of Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) held on Thursday 4th November, 2021 at the ECWA Church Alagbaka, Akure.

She enjoined participants, parents, students from various schools across the state to be conscious of factors that causes misuse of drugs such as ignorance, frustrations, inferiority complex and lack of proper exposure to health talk in schools.

Adefolalu also stressed the major consequences of drug abuse which mostly lead to damage of the nervous system, respiratory problems, mental disorder and eventual death among others.

She emphasized that NOA and NDLEA are in strong synergy to curb activities of drug abuse among youths, men and women and to caution against self medication, self prescription and misuse of over the counter drugs.

She advised parents to counsel their children and seek professional medical attention whenever they noticed any health challenges.

During an interactive engagement at the convention, the NOA boss handled a practical session on Covid-19 non pharmaceutical preventive measures.

This centered on proper hand washing and enlightenment on the covid-19 vaccines. The vaccines are highly effective substance used to stimulate the productions of antibodies and provides immunity which strengthens and fight to defend the body system against one or several diseases that the body may be exposed to.

Participants were urged to continue the use of nose mask in the public, regular hand washing, social distancing even after being vaccinated.

Adefolalu also noted that the vaccines are capable of reducing a person’s risk of contracting the virus that causes covid-19.

She advised the participants to get vaccinated now that the vaccines are readily available at government designated facilities.
